The ELLA Award is named for its first recipient, Ella Fitzgerald who received her award in 1989. Also, Doris Day will be given the inaugural Legend Award. Dave hosts Music Center Spotlight Awards Gala Show

On Saturday, April 24 Dave will host the 22nd Music Center Spotlight Awards show at the Ahmanson Theatre. This year’s judges include David Benoit, Kevin Eubanks, Alphonso Johnson, Martin Chalifour (concertmaster of the LA Phil), Suzanna Guzman, Carrie Ann Inaba, and Nigel Lythgoe. The Spotlight Awards is a scholarship and training in the arts program for high school students in the performing and visual arts in Southern California. The 12 performing arts finalists will perform on stage at the Ahmanson Theatre. Our celebrity judges will choose the runner up and first place in each category and the 12 performing arts finalists along with the 4 visual arts finalists will receive their award on stage. Dave Hosts Starlight Gala

On Friday, March 19, Starlight Global Ambassador Dave Koz will host the Starlight Children's Foundation "A Stellar Night" gala along with Chris and Kyle Massey, and a special performance by Dionne Warwick. Since Dave will be in New York City taping the new Emeril Lagasse Show, he will host this Los Angeles event from NYC. The annual event will honor Larry Flax and Rick Rosenfield of California Pizza Kitchen with the 2010 Heart of Gold Award as well as Noel Wallace from Colgate-Palmolive Company with the 2010 Jacky Carlit Humanitarian Award. Each year," A Stellar Night" also encourages supporters to invite their children, ages 5 to 16, to stroll the red carpet and participate in entertaining activities with the ‘Ambassadors’ in the infamous "Kid’s Lounge." Activities include face painting, crafts, video games, fun photo ops, and making gifts for hospitalized children.

Dave will lead the live band and participate in various other segments of the show. This hour-long cooking/entertainment/lifestyle show will be filmed before a live audience in New York City. Taping is scheduled during the daytime beginning in early March 2010. He will make his first appearance at Pier Six Pavilion in Baltimore, MD on Friday, July 30 and will be returning to Kettering Ohio at Fraze Pavilion on Saturday, July 31. As always, we will make every effort to offer fan club tickets for current members of Join The Koz. Just back from the Smooth Jazz Cruise 2010 — and I want to say thank you to the absolutely wonderful group of guests onboard the Westerdam. This certainly was a special cruise, completely sold-out... the weather was perfect, the music was extraordinary... and most importantly, we celebrated the life of our dear friend Wayman Tisdale in high-style and spirit. I think Tis would’ve been proud of all the music that was made in his memory this past week! And what a blessing to have his wife Regina and kids Danielle and Bubba on the ship as well.

Walking around the ship, I heard from many guests about me not being a part of the Smooth Jazz Cruise in 2011 and how many of you missed the DK and Friends cruise experience that we’ve shared the last four years. I want to thank you so much for the encouragement and support, and for being there for me all these years at sea... it means a ton to me. And I too missed being more involved in this cruise. But I know I will continue to see many of you in the future as we carve out some exciting new adventures that we can do together.

A New Years Message from Dave

As this new decade fast approaches, I want to take a quick moment to offer you my sincerest gratitude for the incredible memories and moments you have provided me in the last 10 years… it’s been quite the journey for sure!! And I’ve been absolutely thrilled to take it with you.

I hope you and yours had a beautiful, warm, and blessed holiday season, filled with love and fun. I had a great time seeing many of you out on our Christmas tour this year along with David, Brenda, Rick and Peter. We had a blast – a perfect wrap-up to an already HIGHLY memorable year! But I must admit, it feels good to be home and get a little rest!

And now… before we know it, it’ll be 2010... can you imagine it?! Wow. A whole decade with infinite possibilities.

For me, it’s all about a new recording – my first for Concord. Soon in January, I will be back in the studio commencing work on that new project – it will be wonderful to be in that creative space again and be able to share new music with you soon – so keep an eye out! The theme of this project is the future… and how it is ours, right here, right now… to make it what we want it to be. Without fear or trepidation. In other words… “Hello, Tomorrow.”

Whatever you have planned for your new year, I hope our paths can meet up during it… and until that time when we connect next, I want to wish you the most wonderful, happy and healthy 2010 – complete with continued blessings and love, dreams coming true and wonderful times with those you care about most.

"I was recently asked by my friend, Nashville-based producer/guitarist/composer Skip Ewing, to be a part of a project near and dear to his heart. He shared with me a story and images of Juliana Wetmore, a young girl he met who transformed his life and taught him many important lessons. Once I saw the spirit of this little girl come shining through, I knew it was a project I'd want to be involved with as well. Along with banjo-great Bela Fleck, the three of us combined our voices on this beautiful song that skip wrote. The music so poignantly complements the story of Juliana's journey and shows us (especially at this time of the year with the holidays approaching) what truly matters in life. Despite devastating physical challenges this "girl without a face" is teaching us all a whole lot and doing so in such a beautiful, touching and heartfelt way. I must say that these images can be a little graphic and jarring... but once you look beyond the surface and see the love and acceptance and joy coming through this amazing (and HUGE) spirit, I believe you too will be moved like we all were. I invite you to take a look at the video and listen to the song, and if so inclined, share it with the people closest to you in your life.
