You say you want to meet “the man”? Well, here’s
your chance! Dave has teamed up with The
Liberty Hill Foundation to offer this awesome

(valued at approximately $95 each, including tax
and fees) to the December 20, 2008 performance of
“Dave Koz and Friends: A Smooth Jazz Christmas Tour”

All proceeds will benefit The Liberty Hill Foundation
which partners with innovative and effective Los
Angeles grassroots organizations to combat poverty
and injustice. They help transform the City of Angels
into a place that promises safety, equality and opportunity
for everyone who lives here. Their motto is Change,
not Charity. Charity is important, but their dollars

change for the long term.

As part of their annual “gift” to Dave for his birthday,
his fans came together to donate over $2,300 to the American
Heart Association in memory of his dad and mom,
Dr. Norman and Audrey Koz. Each year the amount
grows and is a true testament to the love Dave’s
fans have for him, his music and his family. The
next opportunity to show your support of Dave by
“giving back” will be this winter when donations
go to Starlight
Starbright Children’s Foundation, another charity
that is close to Dave’s heart. Thank you so much
for your generosity! It is truly appreciated by
Dave and AHA. |

Dave performed the National Anthem on Monday, 3/31,
for the home opener of the LA Dodgers. From the mlb.com website…
The Vandenberg Air Force Base Color Guard presented the
colors as a flag big enough to cover the entire outfield
was unfurled, setting up a dramatic national anthem from
jazz saxophone player extraordinaire Dave Koz that managed
to rise above the noise of the flyover by the B-1 bomber
from Dyess Air Force Base near Abilene, Texas.

An inquiry came in from someone who attended one of
Dave’s 2007 Christmas shows asking if Dave would sell
his white-on-white shirt that he wore during one of the
sets. When asked, Dave replied that if the person would
donate double the value of the shirt to Starlight Starbright,
he would happily send the (laundered) shirt to her after
the tour was over. So… Gloria of Sewell, NJ has donated
$600.00 to Starlight Starbright and can proudly wear
Dave’s cool shirt. Sounds like an awesome “trade” for
a terrific charity! Way cool, Dave and Gloria!

At 11:00am on Sunday, April 6, 2008, we will meet for
the Join the Koz fan club gathering
at The
Farm of Beverly Hills, at The
Grove on Fairfax and Third Street in Los Angeles,
CA. Located adjacent to The Grove is the famous LA
Farmers Market where there are additional shopping
and people-watching opportunities! After brunch,
everyone can walk around these great areas.
If this is your first time meeting some of Dave’s
fan club members, you will have lots of fun getting acquainted
and exploring the area with your new friends! We
will order off the menu, so you can spend as much or
as little as you want.
Of course, Dave plans to stop by the brunch to say hi
and visit for a bit! You won’t want to miss
the opportunity to spend a little time with our favorite
musician.
Please email your name to jtk@davekoz.com by
March 2 if you will be able to attend. Once
we have a list of attendees, we will see if there is
any interest in making arrangements for some “tourist” type
events on Saturday and see if we can match up attendees
who might want to share hotel and car rental expenses.
Plan to head to LA for a weekend of fun with other members
of Join the Koz! It’s all about the experience! |

You know those Grammy pre-telecast awards that we
never get to see? The ones where they announce the
categories that Dave Koz is nominated in and then
the winners scroll across the screen before commercial
breaks during the live show? Well, guess what?
This year, you can watch them LIVE on Grammy.com!
Sit down at your computer from 1-3:30pm PST on Sunday,
February 10 and watch the awards for the two categories
that we all know Dave should win:
Best Pop Instrumental Performance – “Over The Rainbow” from At
The Movies
Best Pop Instrumental Album – At
The Movies
Stick by your computer to watch the rest of the show
where you’ll see over 90 other categories that are
not broadcast during the evening Grammy’s. Tune in
to see if Patti Austin wins this year for her “Avant
Gershwin” album and who wins the contemporary jazz
category… Jeff Lorber, Brian Bromberg or Herbie Hancock.
Some of Dave’s other smooth jazz friends nominated
this year include Chris Botti, Kirk Whalum and Spyro
Gyra.
Enjoy the show! |

Features Behind-the-Scenes Footage Of Koz,
Barry Manilow, Johnny Mathis And Peter White Recording
The Grammy-Nominated CD At The Movies
Plus Exclusive Interviews, Track-By-Track Commentary
And Bonus Audio Tracks
PBS To Air Dave Koz At
The Movies Double Feature During March Pledge
Drive
On February 12th, Capitol Records
will release Dave Koz At The Movies Double
Feature CD + DVD. This lush, romantic
celebration of classic movie music hits shelves just
in time for Valentine’s Day and features the Grammy-nominated
CD At The Movies with two
bonus tracks plus a new DVD that captures the pop
instrumentalist/saxophonist extraordinaire and his
guests making the album.
At The Movies has been
nominated for a Grammy in the “Best Pop Instrumental
Album” category while Koz’s moving
rendition of “Over the Rainbow” is
nominated for “Best Pop Instrumental Performance.”
And Dave Koz At The Movies Double Feature boasts
two never-before-released bonus audio tracks: “Alfie,” the
Oscar-nominated theme from the film of the same name,
and Dave’s haunting, evocative interpretation
of famed Italian film composer Nino Rota’s “Love
Theme from the Godfather.”
Fans will want to check out the second “feature”
too, with its remarkable footage of Dave recording
some of cinema’s most memorable themes with special
guests Barry Manilow (“Moon River” from Breakfast
at Tiffany’s), Johnny Mathis (“The Shadow
of Your Smile” from The Sandpiper)
and Peter White (“It Might Be You” from Tootsie).
The DVD also includes track-by-track commentary and
exclusive interviews with the artists.
Dovetailing with Dave’s 2008 concert
tour dates, PBS will broadcast Dave Koz
At The Movies Double Feature during
its March pledge drive, traditionally a time of peak
viewership. (Check local listings for times.)
Koz, who recently wrapped up the
10th anniversary of the Dave Koz and Friends
A Smooth Jazz Christmas Tour, had two #1
albums on Billboard’s Top Contemporary Jazz
chart in 2007. At The Movies topped
the chart for eight weeks while Dave’s new
holiday collection, Memories of a Winter’s
Night, hit #1 in December. The latter
featured the Top 10 AC radio hit “White Christmas,” Koz’s duet
with Kelly Sweet. |

Each year, Dave’s fans donate money to Starlight
Starbright as a holiday gesture of giving back to
one of Dave’s favorite charities. This year it was
done In Memory of Audrey Koz, Dave’s beloved mother
who passed in November, 2005. Fans donated a record-setting
$3,405.00 and the “check” was presented to Dave at
his Dave Koz & Friends 10th Anniversary Smooth
Jazz Christmas show in Mesa, AZ. Thanks to everyone
who donated and to Sue Curry for organizing the project.
And a personal thank you from Dave to those who
participated:
Dear all...
First of all, HAPPY 2008! I just wanted to thank
you all for the incredible donation you made to Starlight
in honor of my mom, Audrey this past holiday season.
I was simply overwhelmed when Sue showed me the check
for $3405!!
You have been not only great supporters of mine,
but the causes that are deeply meaningful to me,
and that is most special. So...my heartfelt thanks
for your kindness, your never-ending support and
for your incredible generosity.
An extra special thanks to Sue Curry for spearheading
this effort each year. The Starlight Foundation and
I are MOST appreciative to you all.
All my very best...and here’s to a fantastic new
year ahead for all of us!
Love, DK.
