DavidMixner.com "People of the Year"
Dec 7 2007
As 2008 winds down, we thought it would be fun to pick our own "People of
the Year." We selected twelve categories and individuals based on their
outstanding achievements during the past year. We would love to read your comments
on who you would have picked! Over the years, I have greatly admired and respected
these individuals’ contributions to society.
Music: Dave Koz
Dave Koz is "Mr. Smooth Jazz." Besides being the best sax
player in the country, he has done more to bring smooth jazz to the masses than
anyone in years. His company, Rendezvous Entertainment, has signed some of the
leading stars of smooth jazz. His all-jazz cruise is always sold out and his
radio program is heard by millions across the country. In addition, this musical
genius found time to release two of his own albums this year.

NIGHT,
DAVE KOZ’S LATEST HOLIDAY ALBUM,
SCHEDULED FOR SEPTEMBER 18th RELEASE

Deck the halls – multiple Grammy nominee Dave
Koz is back with a new holiday CD and
the 10th anniversary edition of the Dave
Koz and Friends A Smooth Jazz Christmas tour!
Capitol Music Group will release Memories
Of A Winter’s Night, Koz’s third
holiday CD, on September 18th.
Memories Of A Winter’s Night –
which takes its name from the Koz-penned
title track, a celebration of Hanukkah – features
the contemporary pop artist interpreting 12 holiday
standards. Dave is joined by 20-year
old Razor & Tie recording artist Kelly
Sweet on the album’s first
single, “White Christmas.” Sweet,
who scored a Top Ten hit at both Adult Contemporary
and Smooth Jazz radio with “Raincoat,” the first
single from her 2007 debut album,
was a guest on the Dave
Koz and Friends At The Movies Summer 2007 tour,
which recently wrapped up at the Hollywood Bowl in
Los Angeles, CA.
Elsewhere, Dave pairs up with another
tour mate – Kimberley Locke, who
will be one of the special guests on the Dave

Angels Sing” (all previously unreleased
also) plus a few chestnuts from Dave’s two
earlier holiday records, 1997’s December Makes
Me Feel This Way and 2001’s A Smooth Jazz
Christmas. Brenda Russell pairs
up with Koz for the rave-up “Boogie
Woogie Santa Claus,” which
was penned by Leon Russell, and smooth jazz stars Rick
Braun, Peter White and David Benoit shine
on a stirring rendition of “Little Drummer
Boy.”
You can be certain that Dave and
his special guests Jonathan Butler, Wayman
Tisdale and Kimberley Locke will
be playing many of the songs from the album on the Dave
Koz and Friends A Smooth Jazz Christmas 2007 tour,
which launches on November 23rd. In addition to holiday
standards, they’ll perform hits from their respective

Through
the magic of techonology, Dave Koz played a duet
with Dean Martin on the new album, Dean
Martin: Forever Cool. Dave says,
“…imagine that, a DUET with me and the legendary
Dean Martin!! It was indeed an honor – seeing [that]
he was my favorite in the ‘Rat Pack’!”
The CD and deluxe CD/DVD packages have been released
by Capitol/EMI and has 14 tracks pairing Martin's
original vocals with new arrangements and an all-star
group of collaborators in a salute to the unparalleled
talent and charisma of the man known around the world
as Dino.
Forever Cool's inspired
new recordings, woven together with several rare
and previously unreleased clips of Martin's witty
studio banter, feature Grammy winner Joss
Stone, two-time Oscar® winner Kevin
Spacey, saxophonist Dave
Koz, Grammy winner Shelby
Lynne, trumpeter Chris
Botti, international superstar Robbie
Williams, "American
Idol" finalist Paris
Bennett, country music star Martina
McBride, French entertainment icon Charles
Aznavour, Italian chart-topper Tiziano
Ferro and other music greats.
The Forever Cool recording
party took place in Capitol's legendary Studio A
in Hollywood, where almost every classic Dean Martin
recording was taped. At one point, Dave asked the
engineers to temporarily hold off the recording: "Could
you just let Dean and I jam for awhile? By
ourselves?"
Very cool. |

endeavor. Recalls Manilow, "Who doesn't know Henry Mancini's 'Moon River?'
I was delightfully surprised that Dave had figured out a very hip way of rendering
'Moon River.'"
The music can also be found on Koz's accompanying At The Movies CD,
which was released earlier this year. At The Movies is the 8th
studio album for the platinum-selling Koz, who has also garnered four
Grammy® nominations. Koz will take these classic film compositions
on the road with the Dave Koz and Friends At The Movies Summer 2007
Tour, which launches June 3rd and features special guests David Benoit, Phil
Perry and Kelly Sweet. |

DAVE KOZ ADDS KELLY SWEET FOR DAVE KOZ AND FRIENDS
AT THE MOVIES SUMMER 2007 TOUR
Dave Koz has added another special guest to the line-up
for the Dave Koz and Friends At The Movies Summer 2007
Tour: 19-year-old Razor & Tie recording artist Kelly
Sweet. Kelly is currently enjoying a #1 hit at Adult
Contemporary radio with "Raincoat," the first single
from her 2007 debut album, We Are One. The single is
also steadily climbing the Smooth Jazz charts. The tour
launches June 3rd in Columbia, MD and wraps up at the
Hollywood Bowl in Hollywood, CA on August 19th.
Each show on the tour will be a "double feature," with
Koz, Sweet and previously announced special guests
David Benoit and Phil Perry playing their respective
hits during the first half of the show, then joining
together on numerous selections from Koz's blockbuster
album, At The Movies. Rendezvous recording artist
Brian Simpson will play keyboards and serve as Koz's
musical director.
Since its January 2007 release, At The Movies, Koz's
homage to classic film music, has been at the top of
the charts and Dave, a four-time Grammy nominee, has
been in demand, appearing on national television shows
such as "Good Morning America," "The Tonight Show with
Jay Leno," "The Today Show" and "The View," to name
a few. At The Movies contains such classics as "Over
The Rainbow," "Moon River," "As Time Goes By," "The
Way We Were," "The Pink Panther" and "A Whole New World." Guest
artists on the album include India.Arie, Anita Baker,
Chris Botti, Barry Manilow, Johnny Mathis, Donna Summer
and Vanessa Williams
At 19, Kelly Sweet has already performed over 500
concerts in the U.S., including opening gigs for Paul
Simon, Kenny Loggins and Anita Baker. The summer tour
with Koz marks her first national tour since the March
2007 release of her acclaimed debut, We Are One. Classically-trained
and able to sing in several languages (French, Italian
and even Sanskrit), her music conveys a sense of depth,
intimacy and sophistication not often heard in today?s
pop landscape as exemplified by lead single "Raincoat," which
Billboard hailed as "a breezy, precocious ballad that
displays an impressive vocal range, emotive expression
and a vocal equivalent of cool, crush velvet." For
more information on Kelly Sweet go to www.kelly-sweet.com.
Over the last quarter century, composer and pianist
David Benoit has been a passionate musical innovator
committed to the exploration of many different art
forms on the American landscape. A five-time Grammy
nominee for his extraordinary and seminal contributions
to contemporary jazz, Benoit has also embarked on a
multi-faceted journey into the classical music world.
For more information on David Benoit go to www.benoit.com.
Born and raised in East St. Louis, Phil Perry has
spent most of his career as one of the most sought-after
backing vocalists in the music business. His bright,
multi-octave range has played a supporting role on
dozens of albums by such acts as Anita Baker, Boz Scaggs,
Rod Stewart, Peabo Bryson and George Duke. But he has
also distinguished himself through five strong solo
albums that have highlighted both his ability to interpret
classic soul songs as well as his own songwriting skills.

Dave's fans came together to raise funds for one of
Dave's favorite charities, Starlight
Starbright. Proceeds from the fundraiser were donated
in memory of Dave's mom, Audrey.
I am once again overwhelmed by ALL of your incredible
generosity - it means so much to me. As you know,
Starlight is a very important part of my life (especially
this year), and for you guys to continually show
your love and appreciation in this way warms my heart
beyond words. I send my gratitude and love to all
of you. Special thanks to Sue who continues to spearhead
this campaign year after year... and I know the amount
of work involved!! And a special note about my mom
Audrey... I am sure wherever she might be now, she
is smiling because of your overwhelming kindness
to her (and her son!)
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
